Specialisterne

Specialisterne is an internationally recognized leader in harnessing the talents of people on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergent people by providing them with the opportunity to sustain meaningful employment. Originally founded in Denmark by Thorkil Sonne, Specialisterne now operates in twelve countries around the world.

For over a decade, Specialisterne has developed hiring and management practices to help increase the neurodiversity of the global workforce. We are working to prove the business value in hiring people who think and communicate differently and initiate meaningful careers.

Specialisterne USA Inc. is a charitable not-for-profit 503(c) American organization focused on services for employers, employees, as well as outreach and public education. We are closely aligned with our partner, Specialisterne Foundation (SPF) in Denmark, and its affiliates around the globe. The shared goal of these organizations is to enable one million jobs worldwide for people on the autism spectrum and similar neurodiversities.

Our goal in the U.S. is 100,000 jobs.

At Goldman Sachs, we believe who you are – including everything that makes you unique – contributes to how you add value to what you do.  We are committed to fostering a supportive environment that welcomes and celebrates all ideas and perspectives.

The Goldman Sachs Neurodiversity Hiring Initiative, an eight-week paid internship program for people who identify as neurodivergent, aims to empower and integrate neurodiverse people into our workplace. Through robust training, coaching and mentoring, the program will position participants for the long-term career path that they deserve.

We partner with Specialisterne, a non-profit organization that focuses on integrating neurodiverse people into the workplace, to help us shape an effective program for all phases –  from helping to identify and source candidates to training and preparing them for a virtual program.

In 2020, our first virtual class had a 100% offer and acceptance rate. As we continue to navigate these challenging times, this is a true example of our fervent commitment to cultivating a work experience where all of our people can realize their full potential and thrive as their authentic selves.

As we head into our third year we are excited to announce new locations and available job functions.

Accepted applicants will:

  • Participate in a workshop run by our partners, Specialisterne

  • Have the opportunity to participate in a 2-week virtual skills assessment

  • Receive compensation during the assessment period

  • Participate in an 8-week paid internship program with opportunity to convert to full time employment if selected to move forward

As an internship program participant, you will:

  • Hear from senior leaders, NHI program graduates and other professionals on their experience at the firm

  • Receive coaching and mentorship throughout the internship

  • Explore a new area of expertise and continue to develop interpersonal skills such as cross functional collaboration, public speaking and presenting group work.

THE NEURODIVERSE MUSEUM PROJECT

A ground-breaking project has launched to improve the experience for neurodiverse people in museums and galleries across the UK.

The Neurodiverse Museum project is thanks to an Arts Fund grant awarded to Sporting Heritage who will be working in partnership with the British Golf Museum and University of Birmingham to develop the understanding within the museum and wider heritage sector on how to include, rather than exclude autistic individuals as both audience and workforce.

“The Neurodiverse Museum aims to shift the perception of what it is to be neurodiverse and how museums and wider heritage venues can respond. We are setting up a virtual panel of autistic individuals to share information, discuss key elements of museum provision and their ability to adjust and become inclusive, and help steer not only this project, but our future activity in this field.”

Further details on the project can be found at https://www.sportingheritage.org.uk/content/category/what-we-do/projects/the-neurodiverse-museum
